Random Table: Coriolis – The Third Horizon | Mira – 6 encounters in Icon City
On the occasion of the release of The Great Dark, I revisited Coriolis – The Third Horizon. This system and, above all, its background have captivated me once again. I have now created a random table to give the game masters among you a little inspiration for what the group can discover on the fascinating planet of Mira.
Some of the ideas should also be easy to adapt for other religious centers in role-playing games.
Enjoy reading!
The Table
| D6 | Encounters on Mira |
|---|---|
| 1 | A young person in pilgrim’s robes looks around furtively. They are searching for bodyguards and will pay well with untraceable tags. In fact, they are the descendant of a high-ranking family of the Zenithian Hegemony, but have found faith. They correctly believe that their family has sent someone to bring them back. |
| 2 | A prophet from Sadaal preaches in a square about the great Aremerat, the chosen one of the icons. On the opposite side, a preacher from Zalos proclaims the path of the Martyr. Both become increasingly loud in order to drown out the “heresy” of the other. It is hard to miss that they are on the brink of a brawl. |
| 3 | The access road to one of the poorer parts of the city is blocked off. Local security forces stand in front of it, looking concerned and somewhat overwhelmed. There are indications that Bokor are present in the neighborhood. Fortunately, many residents are at work right now. The security forces are waiting for a special task force sent by the Chelebs. |
| 4 | Amid loud lamentations, people walk through the streets dressed in clothing modeled after the penitential robes of the Order of the Pariah. Some flagellate themselves. All are relatives of those who have been afflicted by something called Yal-Shir on their pilgrimage. They believe it is punishment for their sins. |
| 5 | At one stall, a merchant sells all kinds of talismans of the Icons. She claims that they are all made from materials from ancient temples or, even more intriguing, from the wreckage of the heroic ships that took part in the final battle of the Portal Wars in the Odacon system. Authenticity? A matter of faith. But one talisman appears to be a very old data storage device. |
| 6 | In a public square, the candidates for novitiate with the warrior nuns of the Weeping Matriarch are gathered. Most of them are girls in their early teens seeking admission to this respected institution. One such girl, clearly not from a wealthy family, can be seen struggling with the decision to secretly take a performance-enhancing drug. |
