Random Table: Small settlements on Arrakis [English]
Soon I will finally be playing a Dune – Adventures in the Imperium campaign. I’m really looking forward to it! And it’s the perfect occasion to once again make a setting-specific random table.
You can use it to lay game-relevant cornerstones for settlements beyond Arrakeen and Carthag. These are almost all located in the so-called basins, a region protected from the sandworms by the mountains called the Shield Wall.
Have fun reading!
The Table
Allegiance
Faction affiliation is extremely important in the Imperium, and depending on who owns a settlement, agents of a House should be even more careful than usual.
D20 | Who owns the settlement? |
---|---|
1-2 | House Corrino as an imperial possession. |
3-5 | The ruling house on Arrakis. |
6-7 | The house that formerly ruled Arrakis. |
8-10 | A house loyal to the current rulers. |
11-12 | A house loyal to the previous rulers. |
13-14 | A house that is allied with that of the party. |
15-16 | A house that is an enemy of the party. |
17-18 | Smugglers. |
19 | Fremen who have partially abandoned traditional life. |
20 | One of the most powerful organizations in the universe (Bene Gesserit, Spacing Guild, CHOAM). |
Purpose
Establishing and/or running a settlement away from the large cities of Arrakeen and Carthag needs a good reason, because the Arrakis desert is unforgiving.
D20 | What is the settlement’s purpose? |
---|---|
1-4 | As a launch site for Carryalls. |
5-8 | As temporary storage for Spice Melange. |
9-10 | As water storage for other bases and Spice harvesters |
11-12 | As a research station. |
13-17 | As a military base against enemy attacks. (D20 – Even: Sufficiently manned; Odd: Understaffed) |
18 | As a prison. |
19 | As a refuge and fortress for an important personage. |
20 | As a monastery and/or pilgrimage site. |
Infiltrated!
In the Imperium, nobody with even a little influence remains untouched by spies, saboteurs and other agents of opposing powers.
D20 | Who placed the agent? |
---|---|
1-3 | Up to now, no one or all attempts have failed. |
4-7 | A House with which this one has a feud. |
7-10 | The current rulers of Arrakis. |
11-12 | The former rulers of Arrakis. |
13-14 | A House that has shown itself to be unsuspicious of this faction. |
15-16 | The Fremen. |
17 | The Bene Tleilax. |
18 | House Corrino. (D20 – Even: Sardaukar; Odd: different kind of agent) |
19 | The Bene Gesserit. |
20 | Multiple factions: Roll the dice twice more and ignore results 1-3 and 20. |
A place of action
… should be quickly picked in this way. In combination with other random tables, e.g. from the GM screen booklet, it should not be difficult to plot some action there.
